Drapery

This drawing was my attempt at drawing drapery. After drawing out the sheets, I felt that is wasn't going to look as good as I had hoped. Yet, after I completed the sketch of the sheet and began to shade it, it began to look much better. Finally, I finished off the drawing by using both dark patches of black accompanied by brighter white highlights. I felt that the extra texture and shading around the object gave more emphases on the sheets but I wish I distributed it a little better around the painting since the left side seems a bit heavy. All in all, I was happy with how my sheet came out.

Figure Drawing with Scenery

Over the course of a couple weeks we were given the opportunity to draw off of a live model. I had many different sketches and variations of the model in many poses but this drawing in particular stood out the most to me. Not only were we working on figure drawing but we were also adding in scenery to the drawing to bring the composition together. After a couple of attempts, I felt that this one captured the space of the room the model was lying in. The extra details on the left part of the drawing such as the ladder and the curtain make for objects that establish a sense of depth within the composition as well as the details in the sheets on the table. Even though the model appears to be lacking the detail needed to be completely realistic, I that the overall layout of this composition made for a more believable image. 

Hand Sketching

This drawing of my is my absolute favorite that I have done. Drawing hands is one of the hardest things to do as an artist and doing this drawing gave me a lot of confidence in drawing hands. Along with the initial test hands on the right, my primary had had a very unique quality to it. Instead of trying to draw a very accurate depiction of a hand, I chose to tackle a very stylized had where the knuckles and bones in the fingers were over-emphasized. To me this gives a very creepy feeling to the hand as it's already taking on a odd pose. Even though at first it seems to be a very intricate hand, it became much easier to look at once i broke it down into different sections. Now that I went through the steps of creating a hand like this, the task seems much less of a challenge to me.

Side Profile of Myself

This is my self portrait. After looking through numerous pictures on my Facebook and finding none that fit a side profile, I was forced to take a selfie on my phone. After getting a good picture I ended up drawing this. I feel that it is a very good portrait of me. However, the one thing I could not get right and still have yet to fix is the eyebrow. I have tried multiply time to redo the eyebrow so that I did not look so angry in my portrait. After fixing it a couple times i ended up with this. I do not look completely angry in this version so I managed to satisfy myself for a time. For some other aspects of the drawing, I like the way I went about my hair and the general structure of my face. I feel that it is very close to actual proportions. The sweatshirt hood was also a nice touch that brought the painting together.

Still Life with Shadowing

After doing still life drawings before we returned to this them but with a goal in using shadowing and contrast to create a better image. I chose to use my camera bag as a my primary target for the still life. Although the drawing as a whole was not completed, I did manage to finish my camera bag. I feel that my shadowing of the front of the bag and the shoulder strap was the most successful while the right side of my bag was the weakest part. I was not able to capture all of the detail of the right side while I shadowed it resulting in some loss of information. However I feel that the shadow of the bag on the table made up for a lot of information that was initially missing. I wish that I was able to complete this drawing the day I started it but there is nothing keeping me from finishing it off.

Perspective

When we did perspective in class one day, I felt like doing a drawing of a fantasy world instead of trying to draw some perceptive in the room i was in. Thus, I came up with this. I'm a big fan of Lord of the Rings and I used the mountainous landscapes with a touch of magical reference to make this drawing as cool as I could. I liked the shape of the mountain range since it sections of the distance city. To me, it gives me the feeling that the city is an ancient/forgotten place that only the few who traverse the mountain could reach. In the future I hope to expand this drawing with more detail to express that same message.

2D Still Life

The was my first attempt at a 2d still life drawing. I never before heard of that type of still life and it was fun to get to create one. I followed a similar process with this drawing as I did of the first still life. I started with just the spoon and fork and before I knew it, I was adding on many other objects to fill up the space and give it a sense of togetherness. I think the best addition to the drawing was the mouse's long wire that weaved through the drawing pulling it together.

Still Life

This drawing of my is one of my favorites. What started out as just a glove evolved into much more. After I completely drawing the gloveI felt that the rest of the paper seemed empty. So I added in a Gatorade bottle, scissors and a scrunched up paper towel. Along with the dark line that passes across the paper and underneath the objects, I feel like the addition of the extra objects pulls the composition together into one piece instead individual details.

Frontal Portrait of Robert Downey Jr.

This was the first picture that I had drawn this semester in Drawing 1. To be honest I did not know what to expect from my current art skills since it has been a while since I seriously sat down and drew a real life person. For my first drawing, I was very impressed that i was able to convey to people who it was without saying. Just that alone meant it was good enough to be recognized by other people. I wanted to aim for his cocky-like facial expression usually seen when he is in character as Iron Man. Yet, I seemed to end up expressing more of a serious face. The eyes to me seem a little close together but the rest of his proportions seem to be pretty accurate.
